The BSP, an association of the leading British Schools of Peru, was set up in 1995 with the intention of ensuring co-operation between the schools, activities in the English language for the students and professional development opportunities for the teachers.

All schools are members of the Latin American Heads Organization which can be contacted at LAHC

What do we stand for?

The British Schools of Peru (BSP) brings together seven schools which whilst having very different characters  share a common view of education based on our British origins.

Our schools value the advantages that a profound bilingual education, an international curriculum and internationally recognized qualifications can offer a Peruvian student in an ever more competitive and globalized world dominated by the English language.

Our schools value an education which offers not only an intellectually rigorous academic programme of study but also opportunities to participate and excel in formative and competitive sporting and cultural activities.

Our schools value an education founded on a firm but fair disciplined environment which encourages the formation of habitual self-discipline.

Our schools value the formation of our students in the traditional values of respect and tolerance, responsibility and courage, fair-play and loyalty, honesty and generosity and disinterested help to those not as materially fortunate as oneself.

Our schools value the professional development of our Peruvian and British staff by encouraging the sharing of expertise and by bringing to Lima and Trujillo renowned regional and British educational experts.

Why a British education?

The British Schools of Peru share, along with other institutions that offer education in two languages, the intellectual advantages of a bi-lingual education:

Research shows that children who receive a bi-lingual education think faster, are more creative, process information quicker and obtain better results in intelligence tests.

Schools that educate in English and Spanish permit domination of two of the most important languages in the world at the present time.

Our schools are not completely alike, but we share many common features because of our British origins.  These characteristics are:

.An academic focus based on intellectual rigor which enables students to learn how to think rather than just memorize facts.  We require our students to question, analyze and discuss instead of only absorbing ideas.  By emphasizing thinking skills and multiple-intelligence, pupils in our schools are ready to become members of the Life Long Community of Learners.

Highly qualified teachers who are up to date with the most modern teaching methods and techniques worldwide.

Schools equipped with the latest technological advances.

External examinations such as the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and Advanced Levels (A/AS) set by the University of Cambridge, as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) make possible for our schools to assess their educational standards with other schools worldwide.  The high quality education that our students receive enables them to enter the best universities not only in Peru, but throughout the world.

An imaginative programme of co-curricular activities such as music, theatre, art, sports, trips and hobbies, which reflects another aspect of our educational experience.  These co-curricular activities stimulate self esteem and success, apart from academic areas of school life, and teach young people to work together as a team. Pupil activities in recent years have included short story competitions,  inter-school debates, one act play festivals and general knowledge quizzes.

A well defined Pastoral programme that guides and forms our pupils in a secure school environment and, at the same time, stimulates their development, independence, teamwork and concern for others in society.

A disciplined school environment where firm but fair discipline enables our students to become self disciplined.  This is valuable training in the basic skills of life such as personal organization and the distribution of time.

Contact with the British tradition of fair play and its related values:  responsibility, honesty, courage, tolerance, loyalty, generosity and respect.
