About Curriculum and Evaluation
Our curriculum has a combination of the most meaningful elements from
the Peruvian, British expectations and from academic requirements of the
IGCSE (INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION) The
educational programme is demanding and is developed by means of learning
strategies and thinking skills. We are not looking for teaching our
pupils to learn in a mechanic or repetitive way. We want them to be able
to access and process information instead of only memorizing it.
As a part of our integral
formation, we promote the bilingual learning, and we guide them in an
international perspective and with a level of responsibility centred in
the conscience of their actions. To achieve this, a set of demanding
criteria for graduation have been designed.
They not only
take into consideration the academic achievements but also the effort,
the conduct and their contribution to the school life.
As a preparation to enter the University of their choice and specially to
confront the demands of our growing changing world, we offer a strict
preparation of each academic subject, and as instruments to measure
their achievements, our pupils sit half-yearly and yearly exams.
Precisely, part of the academic severity is sitting the international
exams from the University of Cambridge in English, Spanish, Information
Technology, Sciences, Maths and History.
We look to
develop in the pupil an emphasized sensibility with their social and
natural environment. In the first case, our pupils participate actively
in projects for community support, such as activities with La Liga
Peruana de Lucha Contra el Cáncer, the Firemen, Burnt Children in Belen
Hospital, the Old Age Home, Operation Smile, among others. To develop
sensibility towards their location’s natural environment and that of
their region, we set up instructive visits and work trips, which also
encourage experiential learning and a better social and cultural
appreciation.
We enhance sports and
communication abilities as well as artistic sensibility by means of
workshops, competitions and internal and external events, such as
Internal Olympic Games, Juegos Florales, the Week of English, the
Peruvian Night, The Criolla Night, The Musical
the Art Exhibition etc.
Approximately 100% of
pupils who graduate each year are accepted by national universities and
also foreign ones.
Their academic success is highly recognized by the Peruvian prestigious
institutions, such as la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Lima, la
Universidad Privada de Piura, la Universidad de Lima, la Universidad de
Ciencias Aplicadas y la Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola, with whom we
have special agreements.
We also have old pupils studying in universities in the United States,
Germany and Holland.
ACTIVIDADES COMPLEMENTARIAS
Adding to the academic
contents, the school offers a variety of options during six months in
extra-curricular activities, in sports as well as in recreation,
languages, visual and performing arts, music and dance.
Our football, basketball, gymnastics and recently hockey teams
are well recognized.
In the last years, the formation of the Junior Achievement where the
pupils can gain knowledge and experience in business management has
become equally important.
We organize important activities with BSP, or British Schools of Perú,
like stories and short plays competitions, as well as theatre workshops,
debates and sports.
Answering invitations from organizations such as Round Square and
Operation Smile, our pupils participate with them in special communal
projection trips.
Adding to that and in a periodical way we organize an educational trip to
London.
Our school receives every year international
students from AFS who attend as regular pupils in Secondary with whom
they share their inter-cultural experiences.
