A VISIT FROM NURSERY
MEMBERS OF STAFF TO
MARKHAM COLLEGE IN LIMA
The
visit that Yolanda Gonzales, Head Mistress of the
Nursery and Cecilia Ugas, Deputy Head of the Nursery
made to Markham College last May was very beneficial.
An
Inset workshop, led by Leslie Snowball, a British
specialist in pedagogical themes, took place there.
The
Inset was about ¨Enquiry-Based Learning (EBL) ¨ the
objective of which is to encourage students to learn
through investigation in an oriented manner.
Through this method, students identify the subjects to
be worked on by themselves with the help of a guide or
advisor.
Then,
they examine the sources they need to investigate the
subject (the web, books, magazines, newspapers, etc) and
in that way they get the knowledge they need.
This
method promises to enable students to retain more
information because what they learn was achieved through
their own experience and in relation to a real problem.
Moreover, the system uses projects in which the parents
can also become involved.
This
is very important because the children learn to make
sensible questions.
Other advantages of this method are that the students
obtain long lasting knowledge and acquire the qualities
of leadership. |
