Last Thursday, 31st March during the evening
a significant Vigil took place organized by
pupils of Fleming College aiming to show
solidarity with our Japanese brothers'
misfortune. Representatives of the
“Asociación Peruana Japonesa of Trujillo”,
pupils, parents and members of staff from
this school were present in this simple
ceremony which was impregnated with an
atmosphere of brotherhood and deep thought.
It all started with a presentation from the
students about the delicate situation that
Japan is going through as a consequence of
the natural disasters that have happened
recently. Later, some testimonies of
Peruvian residents in Japan and who were
part of these events were read. Following
these readings and as a sign of hope, all
the people there lit candles, as a sign that
the Fleming community wanted the light to
return to Japan.
Mrs. Cecilia Kobashigawa, president of the
Asociación Peruano Japonesa of Trujillo
received all the hope messages written by
Fleming pupils for Japanese children and Mr.
Ramón Kobashigawa thanked the school and the
students for their initiative and praised
their solidarity telling them that all their
messages would be sent to Japan.
The ceremony ended with the children
shouting “Fuerza Japón” while throwing red
and white balloons to the sky as a symbol of
unity and brotherhood amongst the two
countries..
