Nursery Section
Thank you for your interest in the Nursery Section. This is a school
where children enjoy learning and where achievement in all aspects of life
is celebrated.
We want our pupils to develop caring, confident and tolerant attitudes and
at Fleming College Nursery we provide the environment, expertise and
resources to enable this to happen.
This school is fortunate in having well qualified experienced and capable
staff. They have a strong commitment and enthusiasm for children in their
early years of schooling. This website can only give you a brief insight
into life at Fleming Nursery and our work. Why not come and visit the
school in person if you are in the area. We do hope you will. After all,
there can be
not better way to find out about our school than to visit us during a
working day.
Our Building
Improving our school environment continues.We
have implemented an Interactive Learning Center within our Nursery which
features a Smartboard. This is an important tool in a learning
environment. We integrate technology as a natural part of the teaching
and learning process. It increases children motivation making what we
teach more visual. Students have the opportunity to be involved in
interactive games, audio/video resources, songs, stories and activities
related to the different areas of learning.
The
Nursery section has a computer laboratory with 10 machines to which
children go by groups for a weekly period of IT. Throughout this subject,
children have the opportunity to accomplish on topic-based activities
which integrate with the work they are doing in their classes and also
develop their ICT skills.

The playground has been marked to provide a stimulating area for
playtime and games. There are currently two adventure
playgrounds where children spend a great time with fun and exercise.
The building is decoratively well maintained. Each classroom has a
television and a DVD, which are used to facilitate the learning process.
There are two restrooms; these are designed according to the children’s
age and gender.
.
The Aims of Nursery
Provide high quality teaching
Make learning enjoyable, purposeful and challenging
Provide a broad and balanced curriculum
Develop independence and initiative
Encourage the development of positive personal, cultural and spiritual
values
Help children understand and value the world they live
Methodology and Curriculum
We give high quality education for young children with
our curriculum covering six areas: Personal, Social and Emotional
Development; Communication; Language and Literacy; Mathematical
Development; Knowledge and Understanding of the World and Physical
Development.
The subject areas are developed from ages 2 to kinder. The main focus
being on Spanish language awareness at ages 2 and 3.
Children need to develop their
cognitive skills; achieve a good level of mother tongue language skills
and the ability to cooperate with both adults and children.
Pre-kinder and Kinder of the Nursery section apply a full English
Immersion programme.
The goal is to provide a fun pre-school environment for children to be
immersed in the English language. We use age-appropriate games, art
projects, rhymes, songs and poetry to assist children to learn to think
in English, as opposed to translating. Children improve in a second
language in a dynamic an interactive way.

Evaluation
There are two types of assessment; assessment of
learning and assessment for learning.
Assessment of learning is a summative assessment to ascertain the level a
child has reached.
Assessment for learning is the ongoing day-to-day formative assessment
that takes place to gather information on what a child understands or does
not understand and how future teaching will be adapted to account for
this.
Effective ongoing day to day assessments would include effective
questioning, observation of children during teaching and while they are
working; analyzing work and reporting to parents and giving feedback when
is necessary.
Your child deserves nothing less
