The English Language Programme
The objective
of our program in Primary is to develop English language skills as a
living means of communication. From rhymes and songs to story-telling,
classes are intended to promote purposeful and fun informational exchanges
as well as higher thinking skills.
With that in
mind, we consider English a core subject and a medium of instruction for
other subjects as well, covering 30% tuition in Primary. As our students
increase their knowledge of themselves, and awareness of their environment
and the world around, they learn to grow and excel personally and
academically.
In the
interest of expanding the cultural horizons of our educational community,
the department features a variety of events throughout the school year,
the most important one being the English Week. Last year our students
engaged in a variety of activities around the main theme: “Using
English to Solve Conflicts.” Click
here to read about last year’s events.
As part of the
British Schools of Peru, Fleming students along with students from our
sister-schools have had the opportunity to participate in joint
activities, such as the Story Telling Competition, Drama Workshop, etc.
.
Over the
years, Fleming College has gained a reputation for high English standards.
Our staff is professionally and linguistically adept and committed. In
order to ensure achievement, we have established exam level benchmarks for
both Primary and Secondary students at different stages. These benchmarks
are assessed through the international ESOL examinations offered by the
University of Cambridge as follows:
First and
Second Grades YLE Starters
Third and
Fourth Grades YLE Movers
Fifth Grade
YLE
Flyers
