Secondary / Peruvian Studies

The aim of the Social Studies courses in Secondary is to analyse the historical facts in our country in order to know the most significant events in the social, political, economic and cultural evolution of Peru as a State, and understand what is happening now. The knowledge and analysis of historical facts will enable the students to value the  performances of Peruvians and our natural resources, and to develop their National Identity.

Emphasis is also placed on world culture as the students have to appreciate and value world art, know the events that have had an influence in the history of their country, and identify, understand, and tolerate customs and ideas different from their own.

Social Studies in secondary intends to develop the students’ research and analysis of facts skills and, above all, their critical thinking skills.

The methodology encourages the students to investigate and activate their prior knowledge. The teacher’s questioning is aimed not only to find out if the students did the homework, but to make them infer, interpret and make  judgements.

The classroom becomes a debate room where different points of view can be supported with respect to a given topic, be it historical, economic, political, social or cultural.

Research and oral presentations are also promoted in the classroom, library, computer lab, or the audiovisual room using Power Point. Other techniques used are roleplays, group work in the classroom or library, videos, displays, etc.
