In
Secondary we seek to provide an educational space where a creative, critical
and autonomous person can develop and be able to make decisions using a
clear and coherent set of values. Likewise, we intend to offer an
educational scheme that fosters bilingual communication as a tool, a
critical and imaginative spirit and the capacity to make autonomous
decisions.

About the Nature of the Courses
The courses in Secondary promote intensive and comprehensive reading to
be analysed based on the Harvard University Model of Teaching for
Understanding.
As a bilingual school, we offer our students daily exposure to contents
and activities in both languages, English and Spanish.
The subjects develop the students’ ability for observation,
to find
analogies, and to elaborate their own opinions. Students are trained to
freely express their ideas in a reflective spirit but respecting other
people’s opinions as well.
Religion is taught and assessed through an experiential retreat outside
the school once every bimester in each Year group. Art and I.T. in Year
V is complemented by activities in a workshop across the school year.
In addition to the
English class, two other courses are provided in English in Secondary:
Social Studies and Chemistry. Moreover, the preparation for the IGCSE
requires the students to have textbooks and materials in English in
Third and Fourth Years.
Moreover, Chemistry, Physics and Biology are provided in English in III
and IV Years inasmuch as the preparation for the IGCSE requires the
students to have both textbooks and materials also in English.
About the Teachers
Our teachers have a sound professional training in addition to wide
experience in their fields. Most of them are bilingual and have
in-service training. To reinforce their language skills, the staff are
given English and Technology classes to keep themselves updated.
About the IGCSE Exams
It is the school policy that IV year students sit the IGCSE exams
organised by the University of Cambridge. Both the preparation and the
exams themselves are a valuable opportunity to develop analytical
thinking, problem resolution, and critical extensive reading skills in
both languages on the subjects chosen.
Our school offers the exam in five areas: Integrated Sciences,
Mathematics, IT, History and Spanish as First Language.
Satisfactory results are an excellent reference of the academic and
bilingual level of the candidates, and provide them the opportunity to
pursue their studies in the UK.
About
the Exchanges
As part of their holistic education, our students have the opportunity
to travel inside and outside our country to strengthen their academic
and socio-cultural development. We currently offer a cultural trip to
England every summer.
Every year we host international AFS (American Field Service) exchange
students. Cecile Barnwath arrived in 2006 and will stay until July this
year. Katla Pietersdotter, from Iceland attended V Year in 2005. In 2004
we welcomed Corina Binz, a Swiss exchange student, and we have formerly
hosted students from Sweden, Jamaica, and Australia. The integration of
these students to our school has always been very positive and their
interaction is very profitable for our community as well
