Attendance

Attendance to school is obligatory unless students are sick.  All students must attend to school from the first to the last day of each bimester.

In case of illness, every absence from school must be justified in the Diary by the parents.  When a student is absent for 4 or more days, or when he/she can not attend activities on their return to school (Physical Education for example) a Medical Certificate will also be required.

In some cases the school will authorize absences; parents must request permission from the Headmaster in anticipation. Only the Headmaster can authorize the absence of the students.

The school will always authorize the absence of students that:

§         Need to be with their family in case of death or serious illness.

§         Require urgent medical treatment.

Normally the school will also authorize the absence of students that:

  • Have been selected to represent Peru in a sport’s competition.

  • Have to assist to an important family event, such as the graduation of a family member.

  • Exceptional circumstances.

The school will authorize limited absence for students that:

  • Represent their sports club in preparation for possible selection for the mentioned team.   Students will be given a maximum of 5 school days per year for these occasions.

  • Permission to represent clubs will not be given during exam periods or if the student has poor academic, conduct and/or effort grades.

Parents can choose not to sending their children to school even if they don’t have the  authorization. However, it is very important that they know the consequences of a non-authorized absence:

  • They cannot ask teachers for the work the students did during the absence period.

  • They cannot ask teachers to update the students when he/she returns.

  • Students that don’t assist to school without authorization will have “0” in the exams or works programmed for that period.

  • A student can be excluded from school for repeated non-authorized absences.

Punctuality

Students must arrive to school on time every morning, as well as to lessons and all school activities.   They must strictly adhere to the school timetable.

Students arriving late to school will have their names noted in a book kept at the main gate.  The academic secretary will keep a record of those names.

Students arriving late to school due to medical treatment or tests must present a written justification.

Students who arrive late for a second time in a bimester will be admonished and will take a letter home, which must be signed by their parents.

Students who arrive late for the third time in a bimester will be sent home.  If it is not possible to send them home that same day, they will receive a letter informing their parents that they should not attend school the next day. If they have an exam that day, they will receive “0”.

In the case of students of years 4 and 5, a third lateness in the same bimester will mean the loss of one point from the graduation points.

Students who arrive late to a lesson or another school activity for the first time will be admonished. The second lateness will result in a lower effort grade for that subject in the bimester or, in the case of other school activities, may be penalized with a demerit.
