  Graduation System

  << Back

Graduation from Fleming implies that students have achieved an acceptable standard in every aspect of school life.

The level at which students graduate is a reflection of the student’s all-round contribution to the life of the school during his/her final two years in the school. It is recorded on the individual’s graduation certificate.

To graduate students must:

·         Pass their final year in accordance with Peruvian law

·         Achieve a minimum graduation points total of 52

·         Demonstrate good citizenship of the school

·         Achieve a minimum conduct mark average of 3 over Years 4 and 5. It is obligatory that a pass in conduct should have been achieved in the final year

·         All graduates must have achieved at least PET level in English.  By the end of 2005 FCE will be the minimum requirement for graduation at distinction.

Graduation Levels

Students may graduate at the following levels:

Pass – where a student has passed the year in terms of Peruvian Law and achieved a minimum graduation points total of 52 and met Fleming’s conduct requirements.

Credit – where a student has achieved 59 to 67 points under the graduation system and met Fleming’s conduct requirements.

Honours – where a student has achieved 68 to 75 points under the graduation system and met Fleming’s conduct requirements.

Distinction – where a student has achieved 76 plus points under the graduation system and met Fleming’s conduct requirements.

Distinction       :              47 +

In 2004 points will be awarded for IGCSE passes but only as a bonus.  They are not calculated as part of whole because students did not know that IGCSE would be part of the graduation criteria last year.

Discretionary Points

Up to 10 discretionary points may be awarded to a student at the end of his/her school career for an exceptional contribution to the life of the school.

Nominations for discretionary points may be made by staff and are awarded by the Headmaster acting on the advice of the Graduation Committee which consists of the Headmaster, the Heads of Level and the Head of English.

Discretionary Points are awarded under the following headings:

Performance of Responsibilities – the manner in which, as the student has carried out responsibilities given to him/her.  Maximum 2 points.

General Conduct - personal neatness and organization, reliability and responsibility, helpfulness and comradeship. Maximum 3 points.

Contributions to the Life of the School - as a member of school team/s, performance/s in plays and concerts, service to the school community.  Maximum 5 points.

Loss of graduation Points

Graduation points can be lost for the disciplinary reasons and also for poor attendance or punctuality. These will be deducted at the Headmaster’s discretion.

Acceptance of Graduation

Some students will find that they are awarded only one or two points less than they needed to obtain a higher level of graduation. They must accept the decision of the Fleming Graduation Committee. They should not ask teachers to award extra discretionary points as this will be regarded negatively and may in fact result in a reduction of graduation points
