  Regulations for Teachers   << Back

The care and professionalism with which teachers carry out their responsibilities will determine the atmosphere of the school. For that reason:

  • Teachers should never be less well dressed than their students. They should not come to school wearing shorts, jeans or sweat pants (except PE teachers) or flip flop like sandals. Staff who are not dressed properly may be asked to go home to change.

  • Staff should always be on time, whether it is on arriving to school every morning or when going from lesson to lesson.

  • Teachers may not give private lessons to students of the school or to students of a different school who are applying to enter Fleming.

  • Teachers may not leave their students unattended or allow them to leave lessons early.

  • Teachers must promptly mark books, tests, projects, exams, etc. They must also ensure that they complete all administrative tasks which are part of their jobs.  They will use the whole school-marking scheme.  Students should understand the scheme.

Confidentiality

It is not professional to comment unfavourably about internal affairs of the school or to speculate about the private lives of colleagues in public. We must remember that everything becomes known in Trujillo and that any indiscrete comment will soon be heard by everyone.

Personal information about students and/ or their parents which is handled by the school may not be used outside the school or shared with other students and/ or their parents. This information may never be used against the students.

Punctuality

Hours of work

  • Teachers must arrive at school before 7.15 every morning – 7.10 on duty days.

  • Teachers who arrive late must fill in a Late Slip and hand it in to the Academic Secretary.  If a Late Slip is not presented the tardy will not be justified.

  • The employees who in the course of a same month accumulate a total of three tardies will obtain a discount worth half a day of work.

  • With the money collected from the discounts a common fund will be formed.

  • Within the first seven days of the semester to which the discount corresponds, the fund will be used, designating 50% to a donation of social works in name of the Employees and other 50% to the purchase of a gift that will be given at random (raffle) to one of the Employees during a general meeting.

  • The present agreement entered in use on October 1st., 2004 according to Act of General Meeting  dated September 21st, 2004.

 Absences

  • Teachers who are absent from school due to illness must inform the Academic Secretary as early as possible and send in work for their students. If absent for more than 3 days he/she must present a medical certificate. In cases where the absent teacher is not able to send any work the Academic Secretary must coordinate with the Heads of Level.

  • Attendance to staff meetings is compulsory. Attendance to other school activities is encouraged.

  • Teachers who have a free period may leave the school but must be back in time for their next lesson.

 Cover

  • Cover will be organized by the Academic Secretary. She will notify cover staff and indicate what work the class is expected to do.

  • If a class has no teacher one student will go to the Academic Secretary who will find a replacement and will coordinate with the Head of Level about the work to be done by the students.

Discipline

Staff have a duty to ensure that discipline is maintained in their classrooms and throughout the school. Guidelines on class control have been written and must be applied. (See section on Academic Standards)

Most teachers assume responsibility for discipline in their own classrooms. Some, however, are less professional when on duty or in corridors and external areas.

A good school depends on a staff which works as a team in which all members work together and do not depend on one or two to do the hard work.
