Dear Members of Staff,
Two weeks have now passed since I visited your school and
this has allowed me even more time for
reflection.
I would like to say just how impressed I was with the school
on many different levels. The thing, which is
instantly striking upon entering the school, is
the very friendly relationships between pupils
and members of staff. Fleming students walk into
school impeccably uniformed and wearing an all-important
smile. What was also nice was that the students
took the time and talk to me – a complete
stranger to the school.
The next thing that a visitor notices is the care with which
the displays have been designed. From the Coca
Cola displays to the Jesus Christ Superstar
photographs, the school shows off its obvious
pride in its accomplishments.
I managed to get to see around four or five lessons being
taught in both upper and lower schools and was
again impressed with what I saw. Teachers are
very ‘hands on’ in Fleming school. I watched two
very impressive lessons being taught with the
Smart board. After wondering to myself if
teaching could actually get more interactive
than this, the said teacher then began to stick
leaves on a student and began watering her! The
rest of the children were held spellbound and at
the same time learned important concepts such as
photosynthesis. This is effective teaching by
anyone’s criteria.
Having spoken to various members of staff, I found that we
had a lot to share regarding the ways in which
our schools are run. Fleming has been
transformed in the two years since I was last
there and this is a testament to good leadership,
a professional staff as well as attention to
detail….not to mention a healthy portion of
cariño.
Students too confirmed that Fleming is a school they feel
proud of and enjoy attending. From an outsider’s
point of view, this is the hallmark of a
successful school and can only continue.
May I extend my sincere congratulations to you all and thank
you for allowing me the opportunity to visit
your school. I have personally learnt a lot and
look forward to visiting again in the not too
distant future.
Yours sincerely,
Steve Bolton
