Dear Alan,
A most particular and most heartfelt thanks, for
two wonderful days spent in your lovely school.
I was extremely impressed by everything seen,
heard. felt or in any way sampled. It really
was the highlight of one of my richest visits
yet to any of the LAHC regions.
Two days spent in Fleming College at the end of
a gruelling two-week ‘tour of duty’ in Peru gave
me an excellent way of forgetting fatigue and
rediscovering what a fascinating and hugely
enjoyable process education should be. To hear
a young man state in public how proud he is of
his school, then to see this pride so richly in
evidence in students and staff at Fleming
College, is something I shall not forget.
The school vibrates with activity. It is true
that I saw it during English week, but there was
nothing that made me doubt for a moment that
this degree of movement is normal. Everywhere,
there are witnesses to activity, creativity,
enjoyment, a complete involvement in the
educational process in all its many facets. The
international fair generated a real atmosphere
of carnival.
There is energy in the way that teachers deliver
classes. There is purpose in the way that
students move about the schools. There is
enthusiasm in the way in which visitors are
greeted, interest in the questions we are asked,
politeness, friendliness in the attitudes of
everyone. There was even regret expressed by
some that the training workshops I gave were not
longer! I was only sorry that I was unable to
stay, and whenever a pretext arises for me to
return, I shall do so as quickly as I can.
All good wishes,
David |
